Benefits Of Using Goats For Clearing Land

By Donald Kelly

People who own vast amounts of land need to control the vegetation to ensure there is no overgrowth constantly. They end up using lawn mowers, which are noisy and need a lot of energy to operate. However, some seeds remain on the ground and soon germinate again, starting the process over. However, there have been recent developments that have seen people turn to Goats for Clearing Land.

You perhaps keep some goats on your farm. Always finding food for them can be difficult, but letting them roam free on a field filled with food will benefit both of you. Before you let the animals into your land to clear it, some factors have to be considered. The first step is evaluating the vegetation present and determining whether they will be safe to be consumed by the animals. You do not want to expose them to toxic plants which may harm them.

If you decide to involve human resources to controlling the plant growth on your farm, be prepared to expend a lot of energy. Even though you may use a lawn mower, the amount of walking around you will do is sure to drain you. Furthermore, you would have to buy fuel for the machine to run, another expense that will be overlooked if animals are used.

Whenever you employ other methods of clearing fields like slashing, you end up leaving a lot of seeds on the ground. These seeds soon germinate and develop into full grown plants, meaning you have to do the clearance once more. On the other hand, the animals are likely to consume a lot of the seeds. This significantly reduces the number of seeds remaining. Hence, it will take longer before there is new growth.

However efficient your lawn mower may be, there are some locations it would face a lot of trouble before successfully mowing. Goats are naturally flexible. They can, therefore, stretch to reach seemingly unreachable places. Again, since they can walk, you would not have to deal with carrying a heavy load when going to clear your field. As they eat at their pace, it would be wise to have plenty of them at a time if you are on a tight schedule.

As they are animals, they might not know about boundaries. They will keep eating until there is nothing left to eat. On a bad day, they could even invade the neighboring property, which may cause a dispute between you and the other owner. To avoid such scenarios, make necessary arrangements to fence off your land and keep the animals from causing unnecessary damages.

Should you settle for this method of clearance, do not expect to end up with a flat lawn. The animals know that they are only eating and will chew away as they please. If you know you have other plants that you would not like to be interfered with, protect them from the animals in the most appropriate ways.

Besides this method of field clearance being useful, be ready to perform it at least once a while, since plants always find a way to grow. It is a sure way to see your soil get more fertile since the animals will leave their droppings. Your goats are also likely to get fatter and healthier since they will have a lot of food at their disposal.
