The Value Of A Planter Drip Tray

By Harold Gray

Controlled planting has changed the way people view domestic horticulture. People with limited space and time can now cultivate decorative and food-producing plants at their convenience. Container farming is definitely a great idea for many people around the world, but this type of farming also comes with its own set of challenges. A planter drip tray can prove useful in ensuring that plants are maintained conveniently in controlled environments.

Container farming is a trend that has taken root in many home and office environments. The plants that are kept in containers are movable, allowing for adjustments where necessary. The plants can be moved into the sunlight and removed as may be necessary. There are some difficulties however, that container farmers face. One such difficulty is that the pots, which must have holes to release excess water, sometimes leak onto the floor.

One problem that can emerge is leaking. Pots for planting are designed to release excess water. This water runs out through holes in the bottom and sometimes sides of the pots. When this happens, flooring is damaged or stained. This is where drip trays come in handy.

Today's drip trays are designed to add to the decor of the space. In fact, some ornate planting pots are now often designed with accompanying drips trays that complement their design. This means that they match the spots in size, shape and colour. Clearly the manufacturers and sellers have recognized the need for these items.

They are available commercially at home and garden stores as well as some farm supply stores. Online shops also carry the items. Whichever source shoppers choose to use, they are likely to find a wide array of shapes, designs and colours from which they can choose.

Many people opt to use their creative skills instead of purchasing trays. This is usually a more economical option. They re-purpose used items and customize them to suit their needs. Usually, they can find cheap usable items for this purpose at thrift stores or in their own garbage collection.

Regardless of the source from which farmers get their trays, they should consider a few factors that help to ensure that the ideal item is used. One such factor is the quality of the container. It must be leak proof as a container that releases water onto the floor would simply defeat the purpose. Additionally, features that allow the planting environment to remain ideal should be preferred. One such feature is the use of raised ridges or mounds in the plate. These mounds allow the pot to remain out of the settled water in the plate thereby reducing the likelihood of over-saturating the plant's roots.

It is easy to see the tremendous value that these water catching plates bring to the world of container farming. They have been saving domestic and large-scale farmers lots of time and energy for years. As long as people continue to practise container farming, they will need these planting tools.
