Essential Facts About Round Rock Tree Trimming

By Roger Morgan

For trees to grow healthy, they need a lot of maintenance. Several different activities are involved in maintenance, and one of them is pruning, which is also called trimming. The environment provides natural pruning to trees that exist in the wild. However, for trees that are grown as part of landscape, proper maintenance must be provided to ensure proper structural integrity as well as aesthetic appeal. This is worth knowing about Round Rock Tree Trimming.

For trimming to be done correctly without damaging the tree, it is important that its biology is well understood. Doing this task improperly can lead to serious damage which may be impossible for the plant to recover from for its entire lifespan. Such damage may also significantly shorten the life of the plant involved.

When trimming, it is important to be careful which branches are removed and which ones are not. With every cut, the potential of the plant to grow is affected in some way. Thus, no branch should be removed without a reason for doing so. Thus, one should consider the three main reasons why branches are removed. These reasons include improving form, reducing risk, and removing dead branches.

Additional reasons for branch removal include increasing the amount of light and air penetration to the crown. For older trees, branches are removed for corrective or preventive reasons. The reason for this is because it has been proven that routine thinning really does not help with health improvement. Thoroughly inspecting the concerned tree is important before the job is started.

One should start the inspection from the top of the tree downwards to determine which branches should be removed and which ones should be retained. The pruning should also be started from top downwards. This prevents the removal of branches that should not be removed. As a rule of thumb, one should not remove more than a quarter of all branches on the plant.

As one trims, they should give more focus to branches that re too big in relation to the trunk. Only branches that are less than 30 percent in width should be left. Removing oversized branches reduces the risk of collapse during inclement weather. On deciduous plants, only branches that sit less than 30 percent of the total height of the tree should be removed.

Most trees only have one trunk. However, it is possible to find trees that have multiple trunks. In such cases, the main trunk should be identified and the rest should be removed. Defects should be identified first before one start to prune. If one is interested in improving the aesthetics of the plant, all cuts should be painted. Although painting may make cuts look beautiful, the paint does not stop decay from happening.

Before one starts this job, they should have all necessary tools in place. The tools should be kept in good condition and properly sharpened. A pole pruner can be used for branches that sit very high. One should hire a professional arborist if they have any major work that they need done.
