Water Conservation Santa Barbara Involves Minimizing Waste

By Frank Collins

65% of the human body is made up of water. In infants, the percentage is as high as 70%. About 71% of the surface of the earth is water-covered. The oceans form a big part of planet earth. Rivers and lakes are found everywhere. They are sources of life. They are where humans and animals find much needed hydration. To be hydrated is to stay alive. To be dehydrated is to die. Amidst all these beautiful facts and statistics is a crisis that affects over 1 billion people who do not have access to clean water. That makes water conservation Santa Barbara necessary.

The most important step is avoiding waste. It is not good to waste natural resources. That is due to the fact that they are available in a limited supply. It is hard if not impossible to increase the supply of a natural resource. On the other hand, there is the ever increasing demand that puts a strain on Mother Nature.

Waste is the order of the day. There has never been wastage as is the case in the present day world. People are wasting food. Americans throw away a lot of food every day. Water wastage is the most disheartening. By taking a longer shower than necessary, one is wasting a crucial natural resource that is needed for human survival.

The number one source of waste is leakages. Millions of cubic liters are wasted through leakages yet most human beings have not yet awakened to the reality of the wastefulness of leaky components such as faucets, toilets, and sinks. Sealing the leakages is one of the best conservation steps that a house owner in Santa Barbara can take this year.

Rainwater must not be wasted. Rain is a blessing in a country. Thus, it needs to be put to good use. Harvesting rain is one of the best things that a house owner can do. For that to be the case there will be the need to have a number of tanks in a house. These can be purchased affordably.

There are a number of ways of limiting wastages in a household. A simple activity such as brushing teeth can be done in an efficient manner. One should brush his teeth while the tap is closed so that to be able to facilitate conservation. Vegetables do not have to be washed under a running tap. Instead, they can be washed in a pan.

Of course, a good percentage of wastefulness happens indoors. That does not mean that the outdoors is devoid of waste. A common act of wastefulness in the outdoors is using a hose in cleaning a car. That will waste many liters when a person could simply have fetched in a bucket and use it, subsequently saving a good deal of liters.

The human being is his worst enemy. He is destroying the environment at a rate that has never been seen before. As a result, catastrophes are happening. In some places such as California there have been droughts that have lasted for years. Droughts have dried river beds and subsequently reduced the water supply. Thus, it makes sense to take the necessary conservation steps.
